Role overview

Dragonfly Dance is seeking experienced dance teachers — and experienced dancers ready to transition into teaching — to deliver adult dance classes within our established syllabus and teaching method.

We are interested in teachers with experience in ballet, jazz, contemporary, and/or tap. Experience across multiple styles is highly regarded.

Teachers at Dragonfly work as part of a cohesive team, delivering consistent, high-quality learning experiences for adult dancers across all stages of life. In addition to teaching, the role contributes to dancer engagement — helping new dancers feel welcomed and supported as they begin, and supporting existing members to feel connected to the studio and its community.

This role suits teachers who are passionate about adult dance, want to build a meaningful teaching practice within a studio community, and enjoy working as part of a shared approach that supports adults to progress, develop, and sustain a dance practice over time.

Role purpose

The purpose of this role is to support adult dancers to learn, progress, and sustain a dance practice through clear teaching, appropriate pacing, and a respectful, welcoming environment.

Teachers at Dragonfly also play an important role in fostering engagement — helping new dancers feel confident and supported as they begin, and encouraging ongoing members to feel connected to the studio and its community. Through consistency, care, and professionalism, teachers contribute to strong retention, a sense of belonging, and continuity across the studio.

Teachers are engaged to deliver classes in line with Dragonfly’s own teaching method, curriculum, level structures, and teaching approach, supporting both dancer development and a cohesive studio culture.

To succeed in this role ...

  • Be passionate about adult dance and lifelong movement

  • Have training and experience in one or more dance styles (ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary)

  • Be interested in andragogy (pedagogy for adults) and how adults learn

  • Be comfortable working within a defined syllabus and teaching method

  • Communicate reliably regarding rosters, availability, and planning

  • Be attentive to the experience of new dancers and supportive of their transition into classes and membership

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive class environment that encourages connection and ongoing participation

  • Be open to feedback, observation, and ongoing development

  • Value collaboration, shared standards, and being part of a wider studio community

We recognise that experienced teachers bring their own training and ways of working; success at Dragonfly involves applying that experience within a shared, studio-specific teaching method designed for adult dancers, and committing to agreed terminology, technique, and progressions that may differ from those you trained in.

Why join us?

At Dragonfly Dance, teaching is a craft and a pathway — not just a class on a timetable.

Our studio operates as an ecosystem, where classes, levels, teachers, and dancers are interconnected. Consistency of approach, pace, and philosophy across the studio allows adult dancers to progress with confidence and trust, regardless of which class or teacher they encounter.

You’ll be part of:

  • A respected, established adult-only dance community

  • A studio committed to clarity, progression, and dancer longevity

  • A teaching team grounded in a shared method, language, and approach

  • An environment where teachers work collaboratively, not in silos

  • Structured rostering planned in advance

  • Staged training and mentoring in the Dragonfly Method

  • Opportunities to grow your teaching scope and role over time

We also welcome experienced dancers seeking to transition into teaching, with proper guidance, mentoring, and support — not just a qualification, but a pathway into skilled, confident teaching.

Tips for applying

We’re keen to hear from people who are genuinely interested in joining Dragonfly Dance — not sending out bulk applications. The strongest applications help us understand how you think about teaching, not just where you’ve danced.

Here are some ways to make your application stand out:

Address your application personally
In your cover letter, please use the name of the person you’ve been advised to address applications to. Applications beginning with “To whom it may concern” or “Dear Hiring Manager” don’t give us confidence in your attention to detail or your ability to connect with people.

Write a thoughtful covering letter
A generic CV with a brief note won’t tell us enough. Use your cover letter to explain why this role appeals to you, what draws you to adult dance, and what you would bring to our teaching team.

Tell us about your teaching, not just your performance history
We’re interested in your experience as a teacher — how you work with dancers, how you approach learning and progression, and what matters to you in a class environment. Performance experience is valued, but it doesn’t replace insight into teaching adults.

Show that you know us
We don’t expect you to know everything about Dragonfly Dance, but we do expect you to have explored our website and reflected something you’ve learned about our approach, values, or community in your application.

Convince us to meet you
Your cover letter is your opportunity to show us your thinking, your enthusiasm, and your alignment with our approach to adult dance. Help us understand why you’d be a good fit for Dragonfly and why we should invite you to the next stage of the process.
