Frequently Asked Questions
You can generally start at any time, but please do get in touch with us first to check if it is suitable to start the class you want at the time you want, as there may be times when it is not suitable for a particular class.
Where can I park?
We have a car park at the studio with approximately 30 spaces, but it can fill up quickly—especially in the evenings and during busy class times.
We recommend allowing an extra 10 minutes to find a park and get settled.
If the studio car park is full, try these nearby options:
Kurralta Park Shopping Centre (formerly Kurralta Central):
Just a 2-minute walk away, with free 2-hour undercover and outdoor parking. Enter via Anzac Highway, Mortimer Street, Grassmere Street, or Warwick Avenue. The car park remains accessible into the evening, even after shops close.
Street parking:
Ample on-street parking is available on Mortimer Street, Grassmere Street, Warwick Avenue, Selby Street and surrounding side streets. Some areas are unrestricted; others have 1P or 2P limits—please check signage.
Getting to our studio car park
From the city (heading west on Anzac Highway): Turn left directly into our car park just before Main South Road.
From the west (heading toward the city or turning from Main South Road): Continue past Main South Road, and then just past the studio there is a turning lane where you can do a uturn, then turn left into our car park, just before Main South Road.
Wear what you would usually wear for exercise. Many people wear a t-shirt or singlet top, with leggings or tracksuit pants. Some people do wear leotards and/or tights, but this is absolutely not required. Just make sure what you wear is comfortable to move in, but not too loose (so it doesn’t get in the way of movement or become a tripping hazard)
You are not required to wear special dance shoes for any of our classes, but the types of shoes you may choose to wear differ by dance style. You can dance in bare feet or socks (you may need to take socks off if the floor is slippery of the movement makes slipping more likely). We generally discourage the wearing of street shoes, but if you need arch or ankle support, you are welcome to wear sneakers or some type of flexible shoe.
Ballet – soft canvas or leather ballet shoes, socks or bare feet
Jazz – jazz shoes, jazz sneakers, socks or bare feet
Contemporary – bare feet, socks or foot thong
Tap – tap shoes, or a day shoe with a small heel and something to keep it attached to your foot (eg a strap or boots)
Dance Fit – bare feet, socks, jazz shoes or sneakers, sneakers or flexible shoes

Yes, please do book. There are a number of reasons why, such as:
some of our classes are full to capacity, so you’ll need to book to secure your place
if we need to cancel a class for some reason (this has happened due to unexpected illness of a teacher) we can only let you know if you’ve booked in
You can manage your bookings (including cancellations) through our online booking site or via the mobile app, powered by Zen Planner (available from the Apple Store and Google Play).
You can book or cancel up to 1 hour before the class starts. If you do cancel at least an hour before the class, the class credit goes back onto your Zen Planner account for future use.
If you have any troubles booking online, please email us at hello@dragonflydance.com.au (if you are new to the studio) or support@dragonflydance.com.au (if you are an existing client).
We offer a 10% concession discount to people who hold a full-time student, pensioner or seniors card.
If you have one of these cards, to claim the concession:
send us a copy of your card (either scan and email to support@dragonflydance.com.au or take a photo on your phone send to us via our online chat (see bottom right of any web page on the site)
You’ll then be sent a discount code, which you can enter into the Promo Code field in the online checkout.
You can pay cash if you are attending casually or it is your first visit. If you are on a membership plan, you pay by credit card or direct debit. You can also pay via credit card (using Square) at the studio if you are attending casually.
You can cancel the class up to one hours before it is due to start, and then use that class at another time (as long as you use it before it’s expiry date).
To cancel the class
login to our online booking system (powered by Zen Planner)
navigate to the Calendar
Click on the class you want to cancel your reservation for
Click the red Cancel button
Please note, if you cancel the class 1 hour before it starts, you’ll be able to use the credit to attend any of our classes. You won’t be able to do so if you don’t cancel it or it is less than 1 hour before the class is due to start.
We offer a performance opportunity for dancers who wish to be involved in performances. However, there is no requirement to perform, and rehearsals for performances will not interfere with regular class work.
We don’t break during school holidays so that you can continue your weekly routine at all times. But if you want to take a break in school holidays (or at any time) you certainly can. Just make sure that you’ll be able to use the classes you have purchased before they expire.
We do take a 2 week break from the Thursday before Christmas until the second week of January.
We generally do run classes on the Saturday of long weekends (subject to sufficient bookings). We do not run classes on public holidays. If you are a member, you are able to use the class credit that would have been used on the public holiday to attend another class in our program, as long as it is a suitable level for you.
We do continue to run classes in hot weather as our venue is air conditioned. We also recommend that if dancing in hot weather drink plenty of water (before, during & after class), and to sit down and rest if you feel overheated. You can also choose not to come to class if it’s too hot for you.
If there are insufficient people booked in to justify running the class in hot weather, we may cancel it, and will send a text message to all people booked in (so make sure you always book in if you plan to come to class).
If you have a question that’s not answered here, please get in touch with us. Email info@dragonflydance.com.au or phone 0408 240 772.
We offer a range of classes, and do make changes to our timetable from time to time. To see:
the types of dance we offer, click on the 'type of dance' link in our top menu
the class timetable, click on the 'find a class' button on the top right of any page on our site
what levels and age streams we offer, click on the Class item on the top menu, then select Level/Age Streams from the drop down menu
We have a special introductory offer for new dancers which is a '2 for 1' pass. In other words, when you buy your first class, your get your second class for free. We find this is more effective than a single free trial class because it takes more than one class to get a feel for whether it is a good fit for you. Also, we have so many classes on offer, you may want to try two classes.
At Dragonfly Dance, we offer classes exclusively to adults of all ages, from age 18 to 80 (we've even had some dancers in their 90s). To ensure all ages are catered for, we have three age streams:
younger adults (age 18-55)
mature adult (age 45+)
mixed age
