Welcome to your first adult dance class
at Dragonfly Dance
Starting something new is exciting, but we know it can also feel a little daunting. Knowing what to expect at your first adult dance class can help alleviate any worry you might have, so you can focus on your excitement instead.
This page is here to guide you through everything you need to know before your first adult dance class at Dragonfly Dance— from parking and signing in, to what to wear, where to put your things, and how our classes usually run. With these details taken care of, you can relax, feel confident, and enjoy the joy of dancing from the moment you walk through the door.
Parking
We have a car park at the studio with approximately 30 spaces, but it can fill up quickly—especially during busy class times. During the day, we only have 14 parks allocated to us.

Facilities
Lockers
We only allow water bottles and relevant equipment into class (you can bring a phone if on silent). All other belongings should be stored in a locker.
Take the key with you into class (and remember where you put it - sometimes people forget and panic).
Warmup space
If you are early, you are welcome to warmup in the warm up space (and stretch after class), which includes ballet barres and various equipment such as fit balls and therabands.
Community area
We have a beautiful big community area where you can wait if you are early. People are very friendly, so please feel free to introduce yourself and say hello and relax.
Water and kitchen
We have a drinking fountain where you can fill your bottle, and a small kitchen ( if you want tea/coffee or to put something in the fridge.
Meeting your teacher
Your teacher will usually be advised when they have a person attending for the first time, and will:
-
give you a Welcome Pack, which includes a welcome letter, information about your 2-for-1 intro offer, membership, our timetable, our team, pricing, and more)
-
ask you about your dance experience (if our Business Services team hasn't already passed on that information)
-
if time permits, either your teacher or another dancer, will show you around the studio and help you get settled
-
introduce you to other dancers
-
let you know where to place yourself in class (we don't have 'set spots', but often if it is your first class it's helpful to be placed where you are able to follow other dancers if the class is doing something they have learnt previously
-
let you know if we need any additional information from you before you start
After class, they'll check in with you again to see
-
how you felt about the class (eg does it feel like the right level, style, and fit for you)
-
their feedback on whether the class is a good fit (eg they may advise a higher or lower level, or a different style), and if it isn't ideal, may suggest other options
-
answer questions or concerns you may have.
A member of our Business Services team will phone or email you after your first or second class to check in as well guide you through your next steps.
