Getting started

Choosing the right class makes a big difference to how confident and comfortable you feel when you start.

At Dragonfly Dance, we ask new and returning dancers to get in touch before booking so we can help you choose a suitable level, style, and starting point.

Adult dancers come to us with a wide range of experience, goals, and physical considerations, and a short conversation helps avoid mis-placement and frustration.

How getting started works

1

Get in touch

Fill in the enquiry form below, or contact us by phone or email. Tell us a little about your experience, interests, and availability.

2

Start with 2 classes

We’ll recommend a suitable class and our 2-for-1 intro offer. You’ll attend two classes, either trying different options or the same class over two weeks.

3

Decide what's next

After your intro classes, we’ll check in to see how it felt and talk through options if you’d like to continue. Most dancers choose a membership, as it offers the best value and flexibility.

Not sure what level or class stream is right for you?

When recommending a starting point, we consider:

  • your experience

  • how recently you’ve danced

  • your age

  • any physical considerations, and

  • your reasons for dancing.

Many returning dancers start at a slightly lower level than they previously danced at so they can settle in comfortably. If it feels too easy, moving up is simple.

We’ll help you choose a starting point that feels achievable and supportive.

Most classes at Dragonfly are offered across six levels, from beginner through to advanced.

Some programs use a different structure:

  • Silver Dragonflies (mature classes aged 60+):
    Beginner, Progressing, Experienced

  • Pointe:
Pre-pointe, Early pointe, Progressing pointe, Experienced pointe, Advanced pointe

Choosing a level reflects where you are now, so you can start or return to dance safely, confidently, and with room to progress.

What to expect in your first class

Starting something (or somewhere) new can feel daunting, especially as an adult.

Your first class at Dragonfly is about orientation, not performance. You can expect:

  • a welcoming environment for adult dancers

  • clear guidance from the teacher

  • options offered where needed

  • time to observe, adjust, and settle in

You do not need to “keep up” or get everything right straight away.

Introductory pass
2 for 1 offer

If you’re new to Dragonfly, you may wish to start with our 2-for-1 introductory offer.

This one-time intro pass for new clients gives you two classes for the price of one, valid for 30 days.

You can use it to:

  • try two different classes, or

  • attend the same class twice

We’re happy to help you decide how to use it

Membership and passes

Most dancers attend classes using a membership, which provides value and supports regular learning.

Some dancers prefer to start using drop-in classes while finding their feet.

You don’t need to decide this before getting in touch — we’ll help you choose an option that suits how often you want to attend
