About the course

In this 8-week introductory course, you'll discover the foundations of jazz dance in a supportive, structured environment designed specifically for adult beginners.

You'll develop a sense of rhythm, coordination, style and musicality while building strength, flexibility and fitness. Along the way, you'll learn the fundamental techniques that form the basis of jazz dance, including posture and alignment, footwork, isolations, kicks, turns and simple jumps.

Each class begins with a warm-up and conditioning section before progressing to technique exercises and movement combinations. Throughout the course, you'll also learn a dance routine that brings together the skills you've developed over the nine weeks.

The jazz training at Dragonfly Dance is based on our own unique syllabus, developed specifically for adult dancers. By the end of the course, you'll have the knowledge, skills and confidence to continue into our ongoing Jazz Level 1 classes.

Who should do this course?

Is this course right for you?

This course is designed for adults aged 18+ with little or no jazz dance experience, as well as dancers returning after a long break.

This is one of our mixed-age courses, and most participants are likely to be younger and middle-aged adults. Classes include turns, kicks, jumps and energetic movement combinations. While many older adults enjoy jazz and are very successful in our mixed-age classes, you should be comfortable participating in a more energetic style of dance.
