Jo McDonald is a highly respected dance teacher and thought leader in the area of teaching dance to adults. As the founder and co-owner of Dragonfly Dance (formerly Move Through Life), Jo's passion lies in inspiring and enabling adults to dance and to become lifelong dancers.
With over 25 years of experience teaching dance, Jo is a highly qualified professional who holds a Graduate Diploma in Creative Industries (Dance Teaching) and achieved distinction for her advanced modern dance exams with the Imperial Society for Teachers of Dance. She teaches a wide range of dance styles, including ballet, jazz, contemporary, and tap. In the last four years, she has also been studying Flamenco dance, expanding her repertoire to include this passionate and emotive dance form.
In addition to her work in the dance world, Jo holds a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and a Certificate IV in Commercial Music (Performance). She served on the Board of Ausdance SA for six years, including three years as President, and was also a member of the Ausdance National board. She is a regular contributor to international dance magazine Dance Informa.
Before entering the dance world, Jo worked for Country Arts SA and Regional Arts Australia for eight years, where she held various positions including Conference Coordinator of the National Regional Arts Conference, Coordinator of the Fleurieu Biennale, Arts Officer, and Senior Projection Officer. Prior to that, she worked in the area of training and workforce development in the alcohol and other drugs field.
Jo's diverse background has enabled her to bring a unique perspective to her work as a dance teacher and thought leader. Her focus on adult dance education is driven by her belief that dance is for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background. Her work at Dragonfly Dance is a testament to this belief, as she continues to inspire and empower adults to discover the joy of dance and become lifelong dancers. Her passion for dance is contagious, and her ability to inspire others to take up dance and continue dancing throughout their lives is a testament to her dedication and hard work.
